Prawn varuval

5/5 (1)

Everyone in our family loves this prawn varuval. Any one who is new to cooking also can easily win hearts by preparing this varuval. It does not consume much time as well (except for the cleaning part which requires patience).

Servings: 3

Ingredients:

  1. Onion finely chopped – 3/4 cup
  2. Tomato puree – 1/2 cup
  3. Ginger garlic paste – 1 tablespoon
  4. Prawn – 300 grams (cleaned, peeled and de-veined)
  5. Cloves – 4
  6. Cinnamon stick – 1 inch
  7. Garlic – 4 (crushed)
  8. Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  9. Chilli powder – 1/2 tablespoon
  10. Coriander powder – 1 tablespoon
  11. Garam masala – 1/2 teaspoon
  12. Salt – as required
  13. Oil – 4 tablespoons
  14. Coriander / curry leaves – few sprigs (for garnish)

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a kadai. Add cloves, cinnamon stick and crushed garlic and saute for a minute.

2. Add finely chopped onions and saute until golden brown.

3. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for 2 minutes until raw smell goes off. Then add tomato puree and saute for few minutes.

4. Then add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, salt and one cup water. Stir well and simmer for 10 minutes.

5. After the water content reduces to half, add the prawns and cook for 12 minutes in medium flame with lid closed. Prawns become rubbery if cooked longer.

6. Finally, garnish with curry / coriander leaves and serve it hot. Prawn varuval goes very well with sambhar rice and rasam rice.
