Many of us like Chicken Tandoori, especially from authentic Indian restaurants. But you too can make this at home and wow your guests with very little ingredients and well ahead planning . For example, if you want to host a party on a Sunday afternoon, you should marinate the chicken for this recipe on Friday night itself (36 hours before).

This tandoori recipe uses the air fryer for the purpose. Hence, very less oil consumption. Also, your house doesn’t give the smell of chicken after the cooking has completed.

Chicken Tandoori

Also, I have used chicken drumsticks for this recipe. You can also use wings for this recipe. The baking time alone varies.

Servings: 2

Ingredients:
  1. Organic or homemade yogurt – 1/2 cup
  2. Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  3. Chilli powder + coriander powder – 1 tablespoon (equal)
  4. Tandoori masala powder – 1 tablespoon
  5. Salt – 1.5 teaspoons
  6. Chicken masala powder – 1 to 2 teaspoons
  7. Garam masala powder – 1 teaspoon
  8. Red food color – 1/4 teaspoon
  9. Chicken drumsticks – 4
  10. Lemon juice – 1 tablespoon
  11. Oil – 2 tablespoons

The tandoori masala powder, chicken masala powder, garam masala powder that i have used for this recipe are not home made. I have used ready made masala powders for this recipe. You can use any brand that you like.

Method:

  1. Prepare the marination : Take a bowl, add yogurt, turmeric powder, chilli + coriander powder, tandoori masala powder, salt, chicken masala powder, garam masala, red food color, lemon juice, oil and mix all the contents together.

Once the marination is prepared, please taste it and add chilli powder or salt according to your taste, if needed.

2. Once the marination is prepared, add the cleaned chicken drumsticks and coat them with the yogurt mixture on all sides. Close the container with a tight lid and refrigerate for 36 hours. This might sound crazy, but it is worth the wait.

3. Preheat the Air Fryer to 350°F for 5 minutes. Remove the rack from the Air Fryer and place the marinated chicken as shown. The rack should not be crowded, so that the chicken can bake and crisp properly. Place the rack back into the Air Fryer and bake for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, remove the rack and flip the chicken pieces. Now place the rack back again and bake for another 10 minutes. Brush a little oil if needed.

4. After the chicken is baked for 20 minutes, check the internal temperature of the chicken using a meat thermometer. It should be 160° F. If the internal temperature does not reach 160°F, place it back in the air fryer for few more minutes.

Don’t place the chicken in the air fryer for longer time, as it might get over cooked.

Note: Enjoy the Chicken Tandoori when it is hot. This recipe can be made with wings as well, but its baking time is 12 minutes in total.
